For IASD Parents
As a parent, remember YOU are the most important teacher your child has! Boost your student’s school involvement and performance by:
Reading with your child every day.
Building your child’s vocabulary through rich language experiences.
Being a good role model for your child, both academically and socially.
Practicing what your child has learned at school by engaging in everyday “real life” activities that utilize all skills acquired.
Helping your child “take charge” of his or her learning experiences by establishing/reinforcing consistent routines and expectations around school performance.
Remember! Adequate vision and hearing skills are required for academic success! If your child fails to pass a vision or hearing screen, it is imperative that parents and caregivers follow up by taking their student in for a more comprehensive assessment with a vision or hearing specialist. If glasses and/or hearing aides are deemed necessary, it is essential that parents/caregivers provide these at school.
